When Galen Metz was getting ready to retire he realized while he was quite prepared financially, he wasn’t so prepared when it came to the type of lifestyle and activities he would fill his time with once he retired.  Finding himself in an uncertain place, he began to ask questions of others who were already retired.  What did their retirement look like?

Meet Galen Metz

When Galen Metz was getting ready to retire he realized while he was quite prepared financially, he wasn’t so prepared when it came to the type of lifestyle and activities he would fill his time with once he retired.  Finding himself in an uncertain place, he began to ask questions of others who were already retired.  What did their retirement look like?

As a result of those conversations Galen began researching how to retire successfully from a lifestyle perspective.  Listen in as Galen discusses his journey and desire to help others figure out their retirement lifestyle plan through his book, “Unlock the Secrets of Retirement.”

In this episode:

So many people struggle prior to retirement and often after retirement figuring out what their life will look like.  Most people work all of their lives and for many, their work is a huge part of their identity.  Leaving the workplace where their network, friends and support are removed from their lives is often where many have difficulty filling that time they once spent working.

Galen walks us through steps for consideration for lifestyle planning for retirement. The key Galen emphasizes, is to create a “diversified portfolio of activities.”   By following these simple steps you can navigate your way to a meaningful and happy retirement.

1 Create a written plan for your activities.

2.Build the plan around what makes you happy and gives you purpose; Take a two-week period and note what makes you feel happy every day. This will give you insight into what you enjoy doing.

3  Determine what are your core purpose(s):  Financial, health, networking, hobbies, spiritual, charitable, family, personal growth

4. Create an atmosphere of Mind and Body stimulation critical in overall wellness

5. Factor in other interests such as travel;  Visiting family; travel locally or larger trips opening you to other community and cultures

6. Communicate a plan with your significant other and merge your two plans;  maintain your Independence and be aware of challenges adapting your lifestyles when you are both retired.

7. Working part time after retirement; creating next careers, maintaining social connection; meshing your personal interests and work

8. Other dynamic changes in retirement:  multiple retirements;  younger age retirement

Consider these steps, put a plan in place and let your retirement good times begin!
